ROME JUNE 17TH – NOVEMBER 21ST 2021
Biagiotti Group holds a legacy that aims to the future and progress. This heritage of values witnessed the union between art and fashion that has become a new cultural and innovative trend of the III millennium.
MAXXI, the National Art Museum of the 21st century, on its 150th anniversary, celebrates Giacomo Balla with an exceptional project by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi and Domitilla Dardi, respectively Director of MAXXI Art and the Museum’s Design Curator. The project consists of the opening of Balla’s house in via Oslavia, Rome, transformed with his mastery into a work of art. The project also includes a large exhibition in the spectacular Gallery 5 of the MAXXI museum. In addition, other artworks are created by eight contemporary artists in harmony with Balla’s futurist masterpieces, highlighting their extraordinary relevance.
The exhibition Casa Balla. To the universe and back home will present a significant part of the Futurist Master of Art Giacomo Balla’s artworks, borrowed from the Biagiotti Cigna Foundation and Laura and Lavinia’s Biagiotti private collection. These masterpieces are related to futurist studies and applied arts, one of Balla’s fundamental activities, which initiated the editing activity of the Manifesto of the Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe (1915). The artworks exhibited include furniture (Hangers), tapestries (Futurist lamp), furniture projects (Project for a pink room, Tarscibalbu, Project for a shop), and the door of the little Red Studio.
Furthermore, it will be possible to admire Balla’s studies created and dedicated to fashion, including the Study of a bag of 1916, Alterations of 1914, the Gilet by Giacomo Balla of 1924-25, the Study for a dress, the dress for Luce’s daughter of 1930, Studies for a pullover; models from the 1930s and the abstract composition of the drawing for a scarf from 1930.
In addition, the immense tapestry of the Futurist Genius will be exhibited. This masterpiece is part of Laura and Lavinia’s Biagiotti private collection, presented for the first time in 1925 at the Expo in Paris; its prism of Italian color lights represent a symbol of the prominent Italian working activity and the quality of the made in Italy.
“It is a privilege to support the exceptional exhibition ‘Casa Balla. To the universe and back home. It witnesses an additional symbol of our bond with Rome, culture, and futurism. I inherited from my mother Laura the passion for futurism and for Giacomo Balla, for the energizing shapes, colors, and the brilliant innovative intuitions it reveals. The futurist renovation of the universe goes through creativity and technology, suggesting a new artistic, dynamic, and confident attitude.
To design the future, every day”.

A collaboration with the artist Alex Cecchetti
For the exhibition “Casa Balla. To the universe and back home”, Laura Biagiotti, in collaboration with the artist Alex Cecchetti created a performance named ‘How much can the moon be seen in the daylight.’ The work of art combines the “ballian” spirit with fashion, ballet, music, and performance. All outfits are created and painted by Alex Cecchetti and made by Laura Biagiotti. The collection designed for the performance consists of 12 skirts, 12 printed togas, and 6 more skirts, which function as a neutral canvas that accommodate the artist’s handmade paintings. The choreography will be performed by the corps de ballet of the Opera House of Rome; they will wear the rotating skirts designed by Alex Cecchetti and made by Laura Biagiotti. Alex Cecchetti’s live performance dedicated to dervish dances will take place on June 16, 2021 at 7 pm.
